Overhang Voyageur List
Welcome to the Overhang Voyageur List!
You have made it to this page for one of two reasons: You are either a friend of someone on the Overhang team, or you've signed up for our mailing list - meaning you will soon be a friend of the Overhang team. And we don't mean this in the corporate sense of the word. We mean like actual friends. Like people we know personally, have gone on trips with, and really genuinely like.
So what is the Voyageur List?
The List (officially the Voyageur List, since this was the least dorky name we could come up with) is a list of people that have access to Overhang's exclusive scouting trips. Here's why:
When we introduce a new trip, whether it's a game-based trip, an intro trip, or a river trip, we start by pouring over maps, researching online, and trying to gauge whether or not the trip will be viable, and fun enough to be successful. Once we've made a decision, a whole bunch more work goes into getting a trip to... let's call it the Beta phase. In technical terms, this is the point where we think it'll work but we don't know for sure. So our very last step before actually putting it out to the public is to run a scouting trip.
In the past, we invited only our friends and potential guides, and used the opportunity to see how they do on a real trip (FYI this involved a lot of fake injury scenarios, and even more bear noises in the middle of the night). But this year, we thought it would be more fun to open these trips up, and invite people who shared our passion, and could help work out the bugs before we take it public.
Think of yourselves as Beta testers for camping trips!
How it works
Once you sign up for the list, we keep you up to date on all scouting trips, test runs, and other "Beta" projects that we're working on that need the help of a dedicated base of camping geeks like us. We give you enough notice to plan around the trips, and accept people on a first-come first-served basis.
Is there a Cost?
Sadly, we can't yet afford to take you along for free. Although the trip is not yet in it's finished form, we still have expenses. The trips will be priced individually, but will be very low compared to the retail price, since our own expenses are significantly lower for this kind of trip.
Compared to the retail price of the trips, the scouting price could be anywhere from 20% to 80% off. It really just depends on the trip.
How often do you send mailings?
Depends on the time of year. Now is a great time because we're figuring out or scouting trips for the summer, which is our busy season. You'll see more in the winter and spring than in the fall, but we run these kinds of trips all the time really.
How do I sign up if I do want to try a scouting trip?
You just call us. Whether you get to come on the trip depends on how quickly you react to the mailing, so pick up the phone and give us a shout. Be warned though, we don't always know how many people we are taking, so we may have to get back to you to confirm.
